Healing is defined in the Oxford Dictionary as “The process of making or becoming sound or healthy again”. In Western countries, this definition is commonly applied to the physical levels of functioning only. However, to effectively heal someone, create long lasting wellness and bring them closer to wholeness, one needs to work with the subtle energy systems as well as the physical systems of the person’s being. It is also important to address inputs from all aspects of the human being.
There are a number of different subtle energy systems that are recognised in Western and Eastern healing traditions. The chakras are one such subtle energy structure. They work as an interface between the subtle energy bodies; essentially they are energy transformers capable of shifting energy from a higher to a lower vibration and vice versa. Therefore, by healing the chakras it becomes possible to create healing on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels.
Our ability to derive fulfilment in our life is limited by the unresolved issues creating chakra blockages. That is why balancing the chakras can lead to profound changes in how we experience the world and open up new possibilities. The yogis have used the chakra system for thousands of years as an integral part of holistic healing, they knew that no one could be completely healed if the chakra system continues to be out of balance.
All the chakras are openings for energy to flow into and out of the human being. Although the chakras are always spinning, the terms ‘open’ and ‘closed’ are frequently used to indicate a greater or lesser amount of energy that a chakra is metabolizing at a particular time. The more energy we let flow through our chakras the healthier we are. Our chakras can become sluggish in their function because of some emotionally based blockage and these are often rooted in childhood. Each chakra is affected by childhood experiences that we perceive as negative, however, each chakra is impacted more significantly by specific types of trauma.
One healing technique that can be undertaken to clear blockages within the chakras is Kinesiology. “Kinesiology is a type of biofeedback using subconscious muscle response to detect “stressors” within the body. Kinesiology uses manual monitoring of specific muscles … to determine imbalances of stressors within interfacing subconscious body systems. These systems include not only the generally recognized subconscious emotional and mental processes underlying our feelings and thought… the subconscious muscle system also interfaces with the subtle energy systems of the body, the Chakra-Nadi system of the Yogis and the Acupuncture meridian system of Chinese Medicine” (Tiller, Dibble & Krebs, Subtle Energies & Energy Medicine 13(2)).
The Kinesiology techniques employed in chakra treatment involves uncovering blockages within the chakra on multiple levels: physical/etheric, emotional, mental, attitudinal and spiritual. It also involves applying vibrational techniques to re-establish balance within the chakra, such as sound therapy, acupressure, sending energy, affirmations and emotional stress defusion techniques. Application of these techniques, leads to releasing emotional blockages, uncovering of limiting beliefs and discovery of new insights that leads to change in our life. Overall this leads to creating new possibilities and viewing the world from a new perspective.
Since the chakras were first described several thousand years ago a number of healing techniques have been developed to balance chakra energies and function. Kinesiology provides a unique and particularly effective method for balancing the chakra system. Since Kinesiology uses biofeedback from the client to identify which chakra(s) requires balancing and which techniques would be optimum for correcting that chakra, it can be particularly effective in re-establishing balance to the chakra system. Creating balance in the chakra system in turn leads to significant changes in all areas of our life, including our physiological functioning, relationships, finances, emotional states and overall attitude to life.
